About us

The Wisconsin Gambia Association (WGA) was established in 2020 with the goal of empowering and supporting Gambian residents and their families in Wisconsin by providing resources for socialization, connection, and community building. The association aims to address the lack of proper guidance and mentorship for youths in single-parent households, leading to negative influences like substance abuse and illegal activities. To achieve its mission, WGA plans to establish a community center offering various programs and services.

The organization’s management team will oversee the day-to-day operations of the community center, including recruiting and managing employees, maintaining facilities, running programs, and ensuring financial stewardship. Key roles within the management team include positions such as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and various coordinators for programs and services.

The community center will offer a wide range of programs such as afterschool activities, fitness classes, cultural events, mentorship, counseling, and childcare services. These programs aim to enrich and uplift the community, particularly underserved African immigrant populations facing cultural challenges in the US. The center will also provide immigration services to help immigrants navigate legal options and adjust to life in the United States.

Afterschool and summer camp programs will address the needs of children and youth during school closures, providing structured activities and support tailored to their cultural backgrounds. Childcare services will offer high-quality early childhood education, promoting cultural identity and economic opportunities for immigrant families. The mentor program will pair youths with positive role models from similar backgrounds, fostering leadership development and civic engagement.

Overall, the Wisconsin Gambia Association’s Multicultural Center plans to create a community space where African immigrants can come together, share common interests, and strengthen social ties. Through its programs and services, the center aims to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the African community in Wisconsin and promote inclusivity, cultural celebration, and economic integration.
